Most log cabins will
have interior walls from the same logs that you see on the exterior
walls. The challenge is how to create a space that is exciting and
comfortable for you.
When you finally get that rustic log cabin,
either custom built or from a prefabricated kit, you will notice that there
are some decorating challenges that are specific to your new home. Most log
cabins will have interior walls from the same logs that you see on the
exterior walls. The challenge is how to create a space that is exciting and
comfortable for you.
While the easiest way to liven up this space is the window treatments that
you choose, there is so much more that you could do. You can establish a
color scheme and add visual interest to the walls by hanging quilts or other
fabric wall hangings. Fabric wall hangings will minimize the drab logs
behind them, and as an added bonus they will cut down on the drafts that are
almost standard in log homes. You can also use artwork to help define the
space. A grouping of small canvases can be a really nice compliment to the
log walls, but if you really want to redefine the space consider using
several large canvases. You can add warmth and texture to the room in many
ways, including throwing a soft blanket over the couch, using colorful and
comfy throw pillows on the couch, and adding large pillows for seating
around the floor.
You can find folding screens in a wide selection of materials, styles and
designs. These screens, whether they are wood and paper shoji screens or
fancy wrought iron with decorative fabric, can add visual interest to a room
and help to define the space. Another great touch is the addition of plants,
the bigger the better. You can add refinement and elegance to your rustic
surroundings with the addition of a ficus or a small indoor palm. If you
have children or pets be aware that some plants can be toxic, so be sure to
check with your local garden center about which plants are appropriate.
You can purchase high quality imitation plants at both import and home
decoration stores if you have a hard time keeping plants green and healthy.
The main difference between a high quality imitation plant and the real
thing is the time you’ll save by not having to water. Use your creativity
when it comes to choosing indoor plants. Allow your plants to really speak
of your style and personality.
Another thing that can have a huge impact on the look and feel of the room
is the large furniture pieces that you choose, such as beds, sofas, and
armoires. The most obvious choice for a rustic cabin will be rustic log
furniture, but you do have other options. Two other styles that will look
great in your cabin are Japanese inspired designs and Shaker furniture. You
can soften the look of the bedroom and living room furniture with soft
blankets and decorative pillows, and the kitchen and bathroom can be livened
up with colorful pottery and dishware. Use your creativity and your log home
will be functional, comfortable, and stylish.
