So you have finally
decided to include that rustic look you love so much in your home.
When it is time to go shopping, there are some key things to keep in
mind.
Your first step should be to consider the
overall style of your home: is it a rustic log cabin that you are choosing
to decorate or a modern urban home to which you hope to add a couple of
rustic touches?
Size Does Matter
Traditional urban homes will need log furniture on a different scale than
roomy homes that have large logs and high ceilings. You will need large,
sturdy log furniture to blend in well with your walls constructed from huge
logs or your fireplace which features enormous rocks. Choosing smaller
furniture in a space like this will make it appear small and out of place. A
few large pieces will almost always look better than several small pieces,
even if you cabin has been constructed using 8-inch logs. You can avoid
clutter while still having the room appear full by using large pieces. You
can fill out the space in a large bedroom with cathedral ceilings by
choosing a log canopy bed. You can also use your space well with the
introduction of artwork and well planned lighting.
Shopping for Quality
Even when a piece of log furniture looks good and feels comfortable that
does not guarantee that it is a quality piece. You will see great
differences in both the price and the quality of log furniture, depending on
the skill of the craftsman and the materials used. When it comes to log
furniture, you almost always get what you pay for, with the rare exception
of some great bargains that can be found. Look at your budget and get the
best furniture that you can afford, this will lead to furniture that lasts
longer. Your best bet is to go with furniture that is constructed from solid
wood rather than veneered plywood or particle board. Solid wood furniture is
more durable and will be less affected by the moisture changes that occur
throughout the year. Check the areas where one part of the furniture
connects with another and be sure it fits well and is well crafted.
Dove-tailed drawers are usually a sign of quality. When purchasing finished
furniture be sure that it has been carefully applied in a nice even coat. It
is best to let the manufacturer apply finish to your furniture unless you
have lots of experience.
Choosing a Log Furniture Store
As with most things, you will see that different log furniture stores are
able to offer you varying degrees of customer service. Make sure you use a
store will a long reputation of quality and service if you choose to
purchase your log furniture online. Try and find customer references for the
store you are considering using. Those stores that actually produce the
furniture themselves have a lot more say over the quality of the finished
product than those who simply drop ship the pieces from a warehouse. The
best online stores will have a strong client base that repeatedly shops
there and recommends their products and services to others. These stores
know the value of providing a high quality product that will add warmth and
beauty to your home.
